Suffixation of geographical names with a nominal output results in inhabitant names. With respect to the place names within the province of Fryslân, this is a relatively straightforward affair. There is the suffix -er, which happens to show some allomorphs. Outside the province, there is quite some irregularity. Only a few suffixes are mentioned below, but in addition it should also be noted that in practice Frisian follows Dutch in the derivation of inhabitant names of towns, regions and countries outside the province.
