The core of diminutive formation lies in the realm of count nouns, but in some cases the diminutive suffix (-DIM) can also be attached to a verbal base. The derivations can be agent nouns klieme to knead > kliemke slow person, sorehead, patient nouns (fertelle to tell > ferteltsje story) and action nouns, as in betankje to thank > betankje word of thanks. All derivations have neuter gender.
