Complementation of NPs
quickinfo

Apart from the nominal head, noun phrases (NP) can contain one or more other constituents, which can have different forms (nominal, prepositional or clausal) as well as different functions (complement, modifier or apposition).

The behaviour of PP complements is affected by the specific type of noun involved.

Nouns may also take a clausal complement. In the example below, the noun vraag question is followed by a clausal complement, introduced by the conjunction of whether:

1
Nou is die vraag of daar ook Kitch letterkunde en digkuns is?
now be.PRS the question whether there also Kitch literature and poetry be.PRS
Now the question is whether there is Kitch literature and poetry as well?
