Past participles have the following properties in the four adjectival key constructions: the projection of a past participle has verbal properties internally with respect to word order, whereas it behaves externally as an adjective with respect to agreement. Past participles may be morphologically converted to adjectives. Past participles may be morphologically converted to nouns. Past participles assign the same thematic role as the one an active verb assigns to its direct object in a sentence in the active voice. There are lexical restrictions on the use of past participles in the four adjectival key constructions.
