Semantic classification of the missing verb following the non-finite complementiser
quickinfo

Verbless complements are not only found under modals but also under the non-finite complementiser om for. An example is given below:

1
Atsje mei der net oer om alle dagen spul mei de buorlju
Atsje may R not about for all days fight with the neighbours
Atsje does not like having a fight with her neighbours every day

The missing verb can be a light verb, such as gean go, hawwe have, wêze be or another light verb. If the missing verb is spelled out, it must have the form of a to-infinitive. The light verb can, somewhat marginally, also remain absent in case the non-finite complementiser clearly has a purposive interpretation, which means that it is not selected:

2
a. De fûgel sloech mei de poat om los
the bird hit with the leg for loose
The bird kicked its leg in order to set itself free
b. De fûgel sloech mei de poat om los te kommen
the bird hit with the leg for loose to come
The bird kicked its leg in order to set itself free
