In matrix clauses of effect (or consequence)
quickinfo

V2s may be found as bare roots expressing a cause, while the preceding clause (the superordinate structure) expresses the consequence or the effect.

readmore

Two examples of two successive main clauses are provided in (1), of which the first expresses an effect and the second a cause:

1
a. Hy koe dy hjoed net helpe, hy wie sa siik
he could you today not helpe he was so ill
He could not help you today (because) he was so ill
b. Hy koe net komme, hy moast Teake helpe
he could not come he must Teake help
He could not come (because) he had to help Teake

The cause-effect relation can be made explicit by the causal complementiser omdat because, which will turn the NCV2 into an CV2:

2
a. Hy koe dy hjoed net helpe, om't hy wie sa siik
he could you today not helpe because he was so ill
He could not help you today (because) he was so ill
b. Hy koe net komme, om't hy moast Teake helpe
he could not come because he must Teake help
He could not come (because) he had to help Teake

No bound variable binding can be established between the two clauses, so that they must be classified as not being integrated.
