-jei
quickinfo

The suffix -jei unproductively derives verbs from a few adjectives denoting a certain uncontrolled behaviour. An example is gek crazy > gekjeie to poke fun (at). The suffix is a grammaticalization of the irregular verb jeie to hunt, and is therefore actually a suffixoid. Derived verbs still inflect according to this verb. Verbal and, most importantly, nominal bases also occur.
