/ʌ/
quickinfo

This section is concerned with the vowel /ʌ/, which does occur but has hardly any phonemic value.

readmore

In the overview of the monophthongs, the half open, central vowel /ʌ(:)/ has been put in parentheses. It only occurs in the Southwestern part of Fryslân, in words like yn oarder [inʌdr̩] in order all right and sköle [skʌ:lə] school , which are [inwadr̩] and [skwalə] elsewhere. In addition, it is the first part of the falling diphthong /ʌy/ (see diphthongs in Frisian). All this means that /ʌ/ can hardly be considered a phoneme of Frisian.
