-jei
quickinfo

The suffix -jei derives verbs that denote some wild or uncontrolled activity from other verbs. An example is strune to forage > strúnjeie go out to spy on a couple making love (and disturb them). The suffix is a grammaticalization of the irregular verb jeie to hunt, and therefore rather a suffixoid. Derived verbs still inflect according to this verb. Adjectival and, most importantly, nominal bases also occur.
