Partitive predication with a preposition
quickinfo

An example of a partitive predication with a preposition is provided below:

1
In skat fan in bern
a treasure of a child
An angel of a child
readmore

A partitive predication consists of three elements:

  1. A noun functioning as a predicate
  2. The preposition fan of
  3. A content noun of which the first noun is predicated
The predicate noun is usually preceded by an indefinite article in the singular. It can also be preceded by a demonstrative, especially if its meaning is negative:

2
Dy lul fan in fint
that prick of a man
That wally

The content noun is generally preceded by the indefinite article in the singular. In 17th and 18th century Frisian, a different construction was used with the same effect. An example is given below:

3
Dy flarde ta fanke
that hussy to girl
That hussy

In this construction of noun predication, the content noun is not preceded by the indefinite article in the singular, and the adposition ta to is used instead of the preposition fan of.
