quickinfo

Om-clauses may relativize various verbal arguments.

readmore

The direct object may be relativized:

1
Twa apels om op te iten
two apples for up to eat
Two apples to eat up

Although the indirect object Noun Phrase (NP) may be relativized in finite clauses, it sounds somewhat odd in infinitival clauses:

2
?Earme bern om bôle te jaan binne der genôch
poor children for bread to give are there enough
There are enough poor children to give bread to

If the indirect object is realized as a prepositional complement, it can be relativized:

3
Earme bern om bôle oan te jaan
poor children for bread to to give
Poor children to give bread to

The subject may also be relativized, as shown below:

4
a. Twa famkes om foar him te dûnsjen hie de sultan keapje litten
two girls for for him to dance had the sultan buy let
Two girls to dance for him, the sultan had ordered to be bought
b. In nar om foar him te laitsjen hie de sultan keapje litten
a clown for for him to laugh had the sultan buy let
A jester to laugh for him, the sultan had ordered to be bought
